For commercial layers , the 2017 standards show an increase since 2013 of more than 14 eggs per hen housed during a standard cycle of 90 weeks in cages. The huge improvements in production from pure lines and field tests are the basis for the increases observed in the new standards for commercial lots. The standards are clear evidence that the laying hen selection program is succeeding with its goal of obtaining 500 eggs of first quality , in longer cycles, by 2020.
Figure 1 shows that, with the most recent genetics, more and more birds produce more than 500 eggs in the pure lines. In fact, among the younger generation, 50 percent of the population already produces about 500 eggs. Over time, the frequency distribution is shifting to the right, up to 500 eggs.

Research in search of results

The three groups subjected to the tests produced consistently for 40 consecutive weeks above 95 percent, and about 56 weeks above 90 percent, which proves the effectiveness of the selection program for persistence of posture.
