Reutilización de plumas de pollos

Investigación española creó un nuevo biomaterial a base de pluma y un plástico biodegradable. Lo cual serviría a esta industria, que desecha cinco millones de toneladas de plumas anuales a nivel mundial.

En la Universidad Politécnica de Catalunya, Jordi Aymerich, estudiante de la Escuela de Ingeniería de Terrassa en Barcelona, realizó un estudio, en el cual desarrollo un composite a base de pluma de pollos y un plástico biodegradable, ácido poliláctico, para la fabricación de un biomaterial.

Las plumas aportarían a este nuevo biomaterial la propiedad de aislación –debido a la gran cantidad de queratina de las plumas- y baja densidad, junto a los procedimientos de estabilización, triturado y mezcla con el ácido poliláctico.

Además, Jordi Aymerich, ha perfeccionado la elaboración de este producto, a través de la temperatura, la velocidad y el tiempo. Logrando una composición exitosa de 25 por ciento de plumas y 75 por ciento de ácido poliláctico.
