Importaciones de maíz estadounidense de Latinoamérica al alza

México es el principal importador, pero Perú y Colombia muestran crecimiento

El Consejo Norteamericano de Granos señala el cambio que ha habido en las importaciones de maíz estadounidense de 2012 a 2013 en 14 países latinoamericanos. De acuerdo con el USDA, las importaciones acumuladas de maíz de EUA del hemisferio occidental suman más de 1.7 millones de toneladas (67 millones de bushels) por delante de la cifra del año anterior. México, país que es el segundo mercado de maíz estadounidense más grande, es el mayor importador de la región y el que ha mostrado el cambio más grande en este mercado, con la importación de 1 millón de toneladas (39. 4 millones de bushels) más que el año anterior.

Aunque México hace parecer pequeños a otros importadores, tanto Colombia como Perú muestran aumentos importantes de importaciones de maíz estadounidense. Estas operaciones se pueden atribuir a los acuerdos de libre comercio que eliminaron las barreras comerciales e hicieron que el maíz estadounidense fuera más atractivo y de precio más competitivo.
