China compite con México como proveedor de pigmentos avícolas

La producción mexicana de cempasúchil o marigold no es bastante para ser autosuficiente

China se ha convertido en proveedor internacional de pigmentos naturales que se obtienen del cempasúchil y del chile, tanto para el pollo como para el huevo, según Manuel Rojo, experto en nutrición animal de la firma china Guangzhou Leader Bio-Technology y el representante en México de esta firma, Leo Hong Peng.

La producción mexicana de cempasúchil se dedica al mercado del ornato sin que haya volumen suficiente para la generación de pigmentos. México, cuyo sector avícola consume alrededor de 100 millones de gramos del extracto del cempasúchil (xantofilas), importa el extracto ya concentrado de China. Hace muchos años, México solía ser gran productor de este pigmento.
