Chile abre su mercado a la carne de pato de EUA

Este nicho de mercado tiene un gran potencial de crecimiento

El Departamento de Agricultura de EUA y el Ministerio de Agricultura de Chile terminaron de negociar el texto del certificado para exportar carne de ave congelada y refrigerada para incluir a la carne de pato, según el Servicio Exterior de Agricultura del USDA.

El USDA ya actualizó la Biblioteca de Exportación para reflejar la apertura de este nuevo mercado, y los exportadores estadounidenses de pato tienen contenedores listos para enviar. Los exportadores estadounidenses han tenido éxito con la exportación anual de casi US$40 millones de pollo y pavo, y productos a Chile desde 2008 y la adición de de carne de pato redondea la selección, de acuerdo con el Servicio Agrícola Exterior.
Los chilenos consideran al pato como un producto gourmet, y hay una pequeña población china que habitualmente come esta carne. El Ministerio de Agricultura tiene algunos programas de pequeños productores para promover la cría de patos para este nicho de mercado. De acuerdo con los resultados de su experiencia y de la evolución del mercado desde el año 2005, la demanda puede llegar a 60 toneladas al año, alrededor de US$380,000. Casi totalidad de la producción se consume en los restaurantes de Santiago de Chile.
