En los pasados meses, la empresa con sede en Brasil ha suspendido a miles de trabajadores en distintas plantas avícolas del país.
La empresa cárnica BRF suspendió a unos 1,400 trabajadores de su planta avícola en Chapeco, en el estado brasileño de Santa Catarina.
Según un reporte de Reuters, la compañía colocaría en vacaciones forzadas a los empleados de las líneas de sacrificio y procesamiento de pollos de esta la planta a partir del 29 de agosto. La suspensión de labores duraría hasta cinco meses.

Un sindicato que representa a los trabajadores confirmó mediante una publicación de Facebook que habían aceptado las suspensiones, se informó.
BRF es la tercera compañía avícola más grande del mundo, superada únicamente por JBS y Tyson Foods. Esta no es la primera vez que la empresa coloca en vacaciones forzosas a empleados de sus plantas de Brasil, ya que había implementado suspensiones a lo largo del 2018.
A finales de junio, la compañía reveló que suspendería a 1,400 trabajadores de una planta avícola de Chapeco debido a las dificultades ocasionadas por la huelga de camioneros. En ese momento, otros 4,200 trabajadores de plantas en Concordia, Lajeado y Serafina Correa fueron también suspendidos de sus empleos. En total, se afectaron 5,600 trabajadores.
En abril, BRF suspendió a unos 3,600 trabajadores de sus instalaciones en Rio Verde y Carambei. En ese momento, se indicó que las suspensiones durarían 30 días.
La compañía atravesó recientemente por una reestructuración y experimentó importantes cambios de personal en su liderazgo ejecutivo y en su junta directiva, luego de los deficientes resultados financieros durante el año fiscal 2017. BRF concluyó su año fiscal 2017 con una pérdida neta de BRL1,200 millones (US$371 millones).
Además, en un esfuerzo por mejorar su situación financiera, la compañía anunció planes de desinversión en unidades operativas en Europa, Tailandia y Argentina.
Las principales marcas de pollo de BRF son Sadia y Perdigao. Además de ser una compañía líder en pollos de engorde, BRF, anteriormente conocida como Brasil Foods, también es una de las principales productoras de pavos, puercos y alimentos balanceados.
