La producción de carne de ave de Brasil cayó un 10 por ciento del promedio mensual de la industria de 1.1 millones de toneladas en julio, debido a un aumento en el costo de los granos que representan el 60 por ciento de los gastos de los productores avícolas, según Ubabef.

Veinte de los 80 miembros de la asociación se encuentran en dificultades financieras debido al costo de los alimentos, dijo Francisco Turra, presidente de Ubabef.

“Es una crisis del tipo más grave en un sector que ya trabaja con los márgenes muy ajustados”, dijo. Los precios que los miembros están pagando por la soya han aumentado un 80 por ciento en los últimos seis meses, y el 40 por ciento para el maíz.

Brasil Foods, JBS y Marfrig han dicho que van a aumentar sus precios debido al mayor costo de los insumos. Fitch Ratings rebajó la perspectiva de las tres compañías el 17 de agosto.
