Producción de soya en Colombia cubre apenas 15 por ciento de la demanda

El mercado local es abastecido principalmente con soya de Argentina y Brasil

En Colombia hay sólo 80 mil hectáreas sembradas con soya, ubicadas casi en su totalidad en las tierras de la llamada Altillanura (Llanos Orientales de este país andino, en los departamentos de Casanare, Meta y Vichada, en la el extremo oriental de esta nación, en límites con Venezuela).

Esta cifra palidece ante las 300 mil hectáreas que se saben existen en México y Argentina, y mucho más frente a las 800 mil de su vecino Brasil, desde donde se importa la mayoría del millón y medio de toneladas de soya (entre torta y grano) que cada año necesitan principalmente los productores de alimentos para animales, incluidas aves de corral. Así lo dio a conocer recientemente la publicación bimestral Agronegocios.

Carlos Molina, subgerente de la Federación Nacional de Cultivadores de Cereales (Fenalce), citado por el mismo medio de comunicación, señaló que uno de los cuellos de botella para el poco crecimiento de la producción de soya colombiana está en la falta de articulación entre cultivadores y productores de aceites vegetales para consumo humano.

“Éstos últimos están en una posición muy cómoda: importan aceites crudos de canola o girasol, entonces no crean la demanda para que haya una gran producción nacional de soya y ellos comprarla para extraer el aceite y así generar la torta de soya que el mercado local requiere para la producción de alimentos concentrados de uso animal”. Se calcula que cada hectárea sembrada con soya en Colombia produce 2.5 toneladas anuales, las cuales pueden dejar una ganancia por hectárea de hasta 200 mil pesos (US$104.50).
