Se espera que la demanda mundial supere la oferta en la temporada 2012-2013, según el USDA

Las plantas de alimentos balanceados chinas compraron 600,000 toneladas de maíz de EUA en marzo, en nueve cargamentos para entregar a partir de octubre, el doble de lo que compraron en febrero. Estas compras sitúan a las importaciones totales en alrededor de 900,00 toneladas de maíz en lo que va de 2013, según expertos del sector.

El maíz en la Bolsa de Dalian se  cotizaba en 2,447 yuanes por tonelada (alrededor de $10 dólares por bushel) el 13 de marzo, mientras que el grano en la Chicago Board of Trade estaba en $7.1525 dólares por bushel. La demanda mundial superará la oferta en 13.7 millones de toneladas en la temporada 2012-2013, según el Departamento de Agricultura de EUA.

China compró un récord de 5.23 millones de toneladas de maíz del extranjero en la campaña que terminó el 30 de septiembre de 2012, mientras que los envíos para 2013 se pronostica que bajen a 2.5 millones de toneladas, según el USDA.
