El Comité Científico de la OIE hará la recomendación en mayo

Según el Departamento de Agricultura de EUA, la Comisión Científica de la Organización Mundial de Sanidad Animal, OIE, ha recomendado que se cambie la clasificación de riesgo de la encefalopatía espongiforme bovina de EUA a “insignificante” o “sin riesgo apreciable”.

El Secretario de Agricultura Tom Vilsack expresó su satisfacción con esta decisión y dijo que es un logro importante para los productores y las empresas estadounidenses de carne de res, así como también de las entidades federales y estatales que trabajan para proteger la salud pública y animal. EUA presentó el año pasado la solicitud a la Comisión Científica de la OIE, junto con información de apoyo, para elevar la clasificación de riesgo de EUA de controlada a insignificante, para que después la OIE revisara a fondo la información antes de emitir su recomendación. De esta manera, los esfuerzos por aumentar las exportaciones de carne de res y productos cárnicos de EUA se verán recompensados.

EUA espera que la adopción formal del estatus de riesgo insignificante se dé en la reunión de la Asamblea General de la OIE en mayo, que se llevará a cabo en París, Francia.

Cabe señalar que “sin riesgo apreciable” o “riesgo insignificante” es el nivel más bajo de riesgo en el marco del Código de la OIE y significa que los países así definidos han llevado a cabo la vigilancia y pruebas exhaustivas en los hatos nacionales para demostrar que el riesgo de encefalopatía espongiforme bovina es mínimo.
